Who we are

The Business Advisory Board Limited trading as The Business Owners Guild is the data controller for personal information submitted through this website. What we collect and why

Event registrations. When you register for a Guild event we collect your first and last name, business email address, mobile number, company name and website, your role in the business, employee band, county, Eircode where you provide one, dietary requirements where you provide them, and which membership pathway you are interested in. We use this to allocate and manage your place, to record whether that place is confirmed or on the waiting list, and to contact you about the event.

Membership enquiries. When you register your interest in the Guild we collect your name, email address, phone number, business name and website, role, employee band, county, the membership pathway you are interested in and what you want to achieve. We use this to respond to your enquiry and to assess whether the Guild is a fit.

Consent records. We record separately each consent you give, the exact wording you were shown, and the date and time.

Acquisition information. With each form submission we record how you reached us — the referring page and any campaign tags (for example UTM parameters) in the link you followed — so that we understand which activity brings people to the Guild.

Technical information. To protect our forms from automated abuse we record limited technical details of each submission, including your network address and browser identifier, and we apply submission limits. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies on this website.

Our legal bases

We rely on your consent to process registration and enquiry details and, separately, to send marketing communications. We rely on our legitimate interests to administer the Guild, keep accurate records of our events and enquiries, understand how people find us, and keep this website and our forms secure. Where we are required to keep records, we rely on our legal obligations.

Operational messages and marketing are separate

If you register for an event, we send you operational messages about that registration — confirmation of your place, waiting-list status, a change of place from the waiting list to a confirmed place, and any change or cancellation of the event. These are part of administering your registration and are not marketing. News and updates about the Guild are only sent where you have separately ticked the marketing consent box, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.

Who processes your information

We use a small number of service providers who process personal data on our instructions only: our website and database hosting provider, whose database is located in the European Union, and our transactional email provider, which delivers the operational emails described above from our sending domain. Our related organisation, The Alternative Board Ireland, is involved where you ask about the TAB Advisory pathway. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for third-party advertising.

How long we keep it

Event registration records are kept for the event and afterwards as a record of attendance and of the consent given. Membership enquiries are kept while we are in contact with you and while you are a member. Consent records are kept for as long as the related registration or enquiry is held, because they evidence the consent you gave. Technical submission records used for abuse prevention are short-lived. Where information is no longer needed for these purposes, it is deleted.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to ask for erasure, to ask us to restrict or object to processing, to data portability where it applies, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out.
